Avoid frames mid-motion or mid-transition — they are blurred or half-faded. Nudge one frame at a time around a pause, check that faces and text are sharp in the thumbnail, and prefer moments with clear focal point and good light.

How do I extract a frame from a video online for free?

How do I get a poster image for an HTML video tag?

Capture the frame you want visitors to see before playback starts, download it, and reference it with the poster attribute: <video poster="hero-poster.jpg" src="hero.mp4">. Pick JPG or WebP and cap the size at 1920 so the poster loads fast. Browsers show the poster until the first frame is decoded, so it should match the opening of the video.

Should I choose PNG, JPG or WebP?

PNG is lossless — use it for UI, screen recordings, text and flat colours, where JPG artefacts are obvious. JPG is much smaller and fine for camera footage, faces and landscapes; 90 quality is a good default. WebP is smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and works in every modern browser, so it is the best choice for images that go on a website.

Why won't my MOV or HEVC video load?

The tool relies on your browser to decode the video. Chrome and Firefox often cannot play HEVC/H.265, which is what iPhones and many Macs record by default, and no browser plays AVI or WMV. Convert the file to an H.264 MP4 first with our free MOV to MP4 converter, then drop the result here. H.264 MP4, WebM and most MOV files from screen recorders work directly.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video plays in a regular <video> element on your device and each frame is copied to a canvas inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no queue, and there is no file size limit beyond what your browser can play.
